I Finally Did It, I Downloaded Martin’s Game Of Thrones (A Song Of Fire And Ice Book 1)

A lot of people might find it odd, but I have never read George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones (A Song of Fire and Ice Book 1).

It’s true, however.  Despite being around since 1996, I have never been compelled to read it.  The reason is simple: few of the people who recommend books to me, and who I rely on greatly for picking my next reads, have suggested it is worth reading.  Generally, the comments have always been along the lines of, “Sure, Martin writes well, but the story is just … eh.” (actual quote)  People have told me that the narrative tends to meander and is not tight over the course of the complete story.  Those sorts of stories don’t tend to rate well with me.  Plus, it is a behemoth of a tale.

But, I decided to give it a shot and decide for myself.

I’m glad you did, Mathias. I think there’s much to observe and learn from Martin’s work. When millions love it, it bears inspection.
